Full Text

Bonaparte's sending a garrison of 12,000 French soldiers to Lisbon, while the ink of his manifesto is not dry, in which he publicly exclaims, "Shall one nation submit to the will of another without discussion of its rights," is one of the most consummate derelictions of all pretensions to faith, or character we have ever heard of. The consequence will be, that England will seize all the Portuguese possessions in the East. "Iniquum jus habentis." Madeira and the Western Isles of course will be hers: and "Brazil and Buenos Ayres" will open her a road to the richest Spanish possessions in South America. What a change in the map of the world. What a revolution in the prosperity, in the means of earthly comfort, and every thing as well as in the morals of society, will that accursed French Revolution have effected, before many years more shall have elapsed. —Charleston Courier.
