MOSES E. CLAPP
Moses E. Clapp, United States senator from Minnesota, was born May 21, 1851, in Delphi, Indiana. In 1857 his parents removed to Madison, Wis., and after a common school education young Clapp graduated from the law school of the University of Wisconsin in 1873. In 1878 Senator Clapp was elected county attorney of St. Croix county, Wis. Three years later he removed to Fergus Falls, Minn., and in 1891 he took up his residence in St. Paul, where he soon established a reputation as one of the leading lawyers of Minnesota. He was made attorney-general of Minnesota in 1887 and served three terms. He was first elected to the United States senate in 1901, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Cushman K. Davis. In 1905 he was re-elected for the full term of six years.
