A bill has been presented, in the Legislature of North Carolina, by Mr. Saintclair, and passed a second reading, for the relief of Wives.

It provides that the several Superior Courts shall have full power, upon the petition of a wife, (due proof being made, that the husband of such petitioner is an habitual drunkard, and thereby neglects to provide a support for his family and destroys the proceeds of their labor, to decree that all property thereafter acquired by the wife, either by gift or otherwise, shall be secured to her for the maintenance of herself and family and shall not be taken for the debts of her husband.
