Greece is likely to be soon blessed with all the evils of a European Monarchy as well as the lights of modern civilization. The editor of the leading press in Athens is already subjected to a severe prosecution for discoursing rather too freely on the Government.
As an offset, however, rail roads and steamers are coming into use-- and literature is reviving amidst the magnificent ruins of this once classical land. Among others who are contributing to its advancement, are some enterprising young men who deliver public lectures, embracing new works and translations, and the lisping leader.
About 1000 shepherds and Epeirots have settled themselves in this part of Greece, bringing with them from Thessaly and Macedonia 100,000 sheep and 20,000 horses. Also, a number of artisans and small traders have quitted their errant life and settled in various parts of the kingdom. About 3000 families of Aspropotamites, who are a seafaring people, have settled in various parts of the kingdom.
