Farnsworth Heard From.

The sudden and rather mysterious disappearance on last Monday of J. F. Farnsworth from the office of the Co-operative Fruit Company at Newcastle, says the Placer Herald, gave rise to various questions and conjectures as to his whereabouts, but was hardly a matter of surprise to those who were most intimately acquainted with his family affairs and financial condition. Mr. Farnsworth had been manager for the Co-operative Fruit Company for the past eighteen months, and was a capable and efficient man for the position, save that he allowed his personal affairs to interfere with his good standing with his employers. The company have been paying him a salary of $200 per month, until recently, when it was reduced to $150. Nevertheless Mr. F. had the faculty of living at the rate of twice his salary, and his facilities for incurring debt left him far behind in his personal accounts among the business people of Newcastle. However, he is not known to be in any way short with the company. The theory of suicide was first advanced, and it may have been Mr. F.'s intention to create that impression, as he went to his house just before leaving and secured his revolver, and was last seen walking down the railroad track. The receipt of a telegram by his wife on Wednesday morning from him at Reno put an end to the suicide conjecture, and proved that the assertions of the stockholders, "that he had only gone for a little trip," was right. At a meeting of the stockholders on Wednesday, the position of manager was declared vacant, and Captain E. L. Hawk, of Rocklin, was elected to fill the position.
