Massachusetts Election.

The Boston Courier of the 22d has the following notice of the election returns:

"In the 2d Congressional district we have returns from 19 out of 24 towns. The whole vote against Mr. Upham in the district at the last election was 7,710 against 6,013 for him, or 1,657 plurality. In 19 towns the vote is now, Upham, Whig, 3,798; Rantoul, Democrat, 2,470; Sewall, Abolition, and scattering, 1,467. Mr. Upham's gain in these towns is 1,075, but this is not enough to elect him.

"In the 3d district, Mr. Duncan, the Whig candidate, is re-chosen by a triumphant majority. At the last election there was a plurality of 288 against him. In 19 towns he has a gain of 1,172, and his majority in the district will run over a thousand.

"In the 4th district, so long contested for the last and the next Congress, Mr. Thompson, the Whig candidate, leads, but not sufficiently to elect him over Mr. Frothingham, Mr. Palfrey, and the scattering votes—although he has a handsome comparative gain in almost every town heard from.

"In the 5th district, Mr. Allen, the present Free-soil representative, has gained a few hundred votes, mainly by the falling off of the Democratic vote for Mr. Knowlton, but he had 1,150 votes against him at the last trial, and this majority has not been overcome.

"For the 6th district we do not depart from our opinion of yesterday, that Mr. Davis, the Whig candidate, is elected.

"In the 7th district, Mr. Goodrich does not seem to awake the Whig vote, and he is the only Whig candidate who has not gained at the late trial. He lacked some 1,100 votes at the November election, and he has a greater plurality against him now.

"In the 10th district, at the last election, the plurality against Mr. Scudder was 365.

"In these towns Mr. Scudder makes a gain of 1,265 upon the November election. We may add that we have it from the best authority that nine-tenths of the Whigs of Barnstable county are thorough-going Union men, and that they supported Mr. Scudder upon the principle that he was with them upon all national questions.

"Neither of the vacancies in the present Congress have been filled, and for the 2d, 4th, 5th and 7th districts, new trials must be had for the next Congress."
