Formation of a Club in Gold Hill-
List of Members-The Ground
Selected-Etc.
An Archery Club has been organized
in Gold Hill. Following is a list of the
members: L. D. Folsom. Joe Parks.
John Jones, Jr., Dr. Manson, Albert
Becker, Fred. A. Wise, Thomas Crane,
Mercer Otey. M. G. Standish and Wm.
Haskins.
The organization has been effected
under the name of the "Gold Hill
Archery Club," with Mercer Otey Pres.
ident; Dr. Manson, Vice-President;
Thomas Crane, Secretary and Treas-
urer. Major E. K. Otey. the "Lone
Archer of the Sierra," has been elected
honorary member. The colors of the
club are red and blue. Regular meet.
ings of the club are held on the second
Saturday of each month. An initiation
fee of $2 is charged and $1 per month
dues. Officers elected every six months.
The club has its archery range at the
Central School grounds and it is the
finest possible. It is easy there to keep
boys and intruders out of the way, and
there are fine bulkheads at safe and con-
venient distances on which spectators
can sit or stand and see the practice of
the club. The club practices every Sat-
urday at 4 P. M., and the public are wel-
come to come and look on. Should,
however, the friends of the archers go
on the practice ground, the News warns
them that it is exceedingly unpleasant
to have them pick up and try bows or
handle arrows. Much injury follows
such practices. Bows are broken and
arrows spoiled frequently in this way.
The Gold Hill Archery Club will send
a team to Carson tomorrow to contend
with the Robin Hoods of Carson for the
prizes offered by the Miners' Union at
their picnic for the best score. As the
Gold Hill archers are but just organized
it would be a joke if they fell into the
Sarsfield track and commenced taking
prizes right along.
Archery is getting to be very popular
on the Comstock, and the best people
are becoming interested in it. It is
healthful and harmless, and everybody
will unite in wishing the best of success
to the Gold Hill Archery Club.
