PETERSBURG MEN SAFE AFTER PLANE CRASH

Two Petersburg men were safe at home today after spending almost 24 hours on a beach at Hall Cove, Duke Island, where their light plane crashed in a forced landing Monday night. They were flying from Kenmore, Washington to Petersburg.

The downed plane was spotted late Tuesday afternoon by an Ellis Air Lines plane which landed and took the men to Ketchikan.

Chris Dahl, partner in the Kayler-Dahl Fish Co. of Petersburg, said they "had food enough but didn't eat any of it until the Ellis plane landed."

Dahl and his companion, John Lauc, sales manager for the Kayler-Dahl company, spent the night in the wrecked four-place Piper Tri-Pacer. Dahl said turbulent weather conditions caused him to land the craft.
