and are well organized, deeply entrenched and lavishly financed from the national level.

Battle For Survival

"Consequently, the battle for survival of Georgia and the South must likewise be waged on the national level. There is where the fight is. There is where we need the fighters.

"Never before in the history of this State has the need been so great for representation in the Congress of this country by men who will stand like the Rock of Ages for right and justice and against tyranny and ruthless usurpation of power.

Herman E. Talmadge
Georgia's Choice

"I offer my candidacy on the basis of my own record of public service and the positive program which I shall present to the people at the proper time. I shall not seek office on the demerits of any individual or opponent. However, I shall expect the time-honored right of discussing both the record and program of any opposition I may have.

"I will carry my fight vigorously from the mountains to the sea and I shall seek the support and votes of all the people of Georgia. My political efforts will be confined solely to the race for United States Senator and I shall not participate in any other race whatsoever, state or local. I shall be grateful to all Georgians who believe as I do for all aid and advice given me."

Brotherhood, Honesty And Morality

With "Brotherhood Week" designed for their purposes, some of our people are promoting what is probably the greatest sin of this generation in the name of brotherhood and Christianity. Being unable or unwilling to see beneath their rhetoric, they promote programs that would result in gradual disintegration of our culture and destruction of the race that produced it, according to the best evidence we have.

Elsewhere, from time to time, I have given reasons why integration of the races would be a calamity. The evidence and the reasons have not been answered. I think they cannot be. Instead of considering the facts, those who support integration of whites and Negroes say that there are moral values that take precedence over biological facts and scientific argument. Beyond referring to the Golden Rule and asserting that segregation is un-Christian, they are vague about these moral values.

I do not deny that the race problem is a moral issue. On the contrary, I insist that it is a moral issue. To seek and accept the facts bearing on a problem is moral. To preach and promote conclusions and programs on vital matters without seeking and evaluating the facts is immoral. Intellectual dishonesty is really the fundamental immorality. Denial that the races are different is clearly intellectual dishonesty, no matter how you dress up that denial in rhetoric.

In considering complex problems of human relations, quoting the Golden Rule does not answer the question. What is the right or moral thing to do? It raises the question. The answer is to be derived from the facts and the probable consequences. Impulsive action based on quick sympathy and goodness of heart, but ignoring the consequences, is neither wise nor moral. A loving but foolish mother might give unwholesome food to her child. A wise and loving mother would not.

"Do unto others as you would have them do to you," applies not only to the Negroes and white people now living in our State. It applies also to our posterity.

America on all of the people of the world will not have his support.

We predict that he will vote to greatly reduce aid to foreign governments.

2. He will support the Bricker Amendment or some similar proposal.

The Constitution of the United States provides that treaties made by the government shall, along with the Constitution of the United States, be the supreme law of the land.

Consequently, the laws of this country and of the various states have been changed by treaties. Talmadge will vote to curb this unbridled license of the government in Washington and he will not permit laws to be made by treaties or any organization set up by treaties, like the United Nations, unless and until it has been enacted into law by the Congress and does not violate any of the provisions of our constitution.

3. Talmadge will be no isolationist.

While he will be against the giveaway program and the squandering of our resources and he will stand for the Bricker Amendment, that doesn't mean that he will advocate that we withdraw into our shell and isolate ourselves from the rest of the world.

On the contrary, he will take a realistic viewpoint about things. He will oppose the changing of our constitution or any law by treaty. He will guard jealously the sovereignty of the United States Government and the conservation of our resources.

4. He will advocate a reduction in personal income taxes.

Income taxes on the average person are too high. We are now breaking the backs of our people with excessive federal income taxes and we predict that Talmadge will stand for a reduction in taxes.

5. Talmadge believes in keeping this country strong and prepared to defend itself.

Consequently, he will support measures aimed at maintaining an adequate Army, Navy and Air Force to protect this nation and the lives of our people against all enemies at any time.

6. As a farmer himself, he will vote to protect the farmers of this country and to maintain prices on a level where they can earn a decent living for themselves and their families and in my opinion will stand for a program of price supports on a basis of ninety percent of parity and any other reasonable program designed for the benefit of the farmers of the nation.

7. He has declared war on the Supreme Court decisions in the segregation cases.

As governor, he announced that he would resist the Supreme Court decision and would not follow it. As a Senator, he will do everything in his power to have these decisions in the segregation cases set aside and overturned.

8. He will not be content in just fighting the segregation decisions.

He will stand for a return to constitutional government in this country.

In this position he will oppose every effort to change the meaning of the constitution by legislative, judicial or bureaucratic decree and fight to do away with every one of these decrees where the bureaucrats or the Supreme Court have usurped authority not granted by the constitution.

He is a great believer in states' rights and local self government and is opposed to the idea that the federal government alone is all-wise.

He knows that if the federal government continues the present trend towards the creation of a strong, centralized government in Washington that state lines will be obliterated, that local government will be destroyed and that we will have a tyrannical dictatorship in Washington.

He, as few men do, fully appreciates the viewpoint of the founders of this government who sought to create a federal government with only a few delegated powers.

You can count on Talmadge to fight to keep the activity of the federal government within the bounds of these powers delegated in the constitution.

He will stand for giving to the language of the constitution the meaning intended by the authors of the constitution itself and will oppose every effort of the leftwingers to change the meaning of the English language as written into the constitution.

He believes that the English language means what it says.

He will oppose the changing of the meaning of the constitution by judicial decree or otherwise because some group of wildcat, socialistic writers on psychology or philosophy believe that their ideas of psychology and sociology should supersede and set aside the constitution.

In general, Talmadge will stand for the fundamental principles of the American government and for a return to the constitution.

He will oppose every effort of the Communists, the leftwingers, the radicals and the wild-eyed dreamers to overthrow and change the American system of government and economy.

We predict for him a long term in the United States Senate and that he will be one of the great Senators, not only from Georgia, but from the Nation as well.
