Full Text

We hear that the vapouring insurgents of the Eastern Shore have, as we expected, deserted their ignoble colours, and resumed the spade and hoe, "which they so cheerfully had laid aside." Several dangerous persons have been taken into custody, and properly secured. Others discover such marks of penitence, that they will, undoubtedly, avail themselves of the clemency of Government. Part of the troops sent against them, have since marched to join General Washington. It is said, the independent company of this town have had the pleasure of lowering the abandoned King's colours; and our gallant General Smallwood, having fuller powers than the British commissioners, is now employed in accepting submissions, and dispensing real pardons for real crimes.
