Extract of a letter from a Nobleman in London, to a respectable Gentleman in this city, dated Sept. 10.

"As the various reports you must receive of the state of our affairs are too often contradictory. I send you the following, which you may depend on as authentick. Grenada was taken three days before the engagement of Byron and D'Estaing. Barrington killed 600, and wounded 1700 of the enemy. We lost but few men, and nothing has been heard on either side. Whatever you may have heard the contrary, be assured that the French ran away. Barrington was but lightly wounded in the arm, and is now quite well. Among the vast number of officers slain in D'Estaing's fleet, is the illustrious Bougainville, whose memory must be ever esteemed, as the great navigator, next Capt. Cook, this age hath produced."
