Judge Clayton and the Bank of the U. States.
—The Bank Aristocrats have been in high glee, for some months past, at the prospect they had of winning favour by conciliating Members of Congress. They have been exulting in the belief that a number of the first men of the country, could be bought up! Among the rest, they claimed Judge Clayton, the celebrated Chairman of the Committee of Congress; who so unmercifully ferretted out the crimes and iniquities, the session before the last. They claimed the Judge, body and soul, and looked upon him as a self-sacrificed victim to the great Juggernaut. It turns out, as we expected, that the whole was a vile fabrication, got up by myrmidons of the Bank, to injure the Democratic party, and to produce an effect throughout the United States, at once injurious to Judge Clayton, and as they hoped, beneficial to themselves; but the odium of the infamous slander has recoiled upon the Bank.
We publish, to-day, Judge Clayton's refutation of the charges.
