DURHAM, Nov. 17. - (AP) -
Duke University launched preparations today for its annual battle with the University of North Carolina in Duke stadium here Saturday, and it appeared that the Blue Devils might close their season like they opened it - with many key players on the sidelines.
Following last Saturday's mud battle with South Carolina, Coach Wallace Wade counted four of his top performers out of uniform this afternoon. Latest addition to the injured group is fullback Paul Stephanz who left the Gamecock battle with a leg injury.
Stephanz joined wingback Buddy Mulligan and centers Fletcher Wall and Carl Perkinson on the sidelines today. The latter three did not play at all against South Carolina.
Duke began preparations today by drilling on both defense against South Carolina plays and their own offensive game.
The game will be played before 56,500 persons, the largest crowd ever to attend a football game in the south between Baltimore and New Orleans. The game has been sold out since August.
