DEMOCRATICK STATEMENT.
In the House of Representatives, there will be a small Federal majority; but, we repeat that in Grand Committee, the republicans will have the ascendancy. Phenix of April 26.
Notwithstanding the above confident statement, the federal republican majority in the House of Representatives is Fifteen, and in Grand Committee, Four. Walter R. Danforth, Esq. the federal candidate for Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas for this county, was re-elected by a majority of six votes, in opposition to Mr. Editor Wheeler. We understand his Excellency Governour Knight has appointed Thomas Rivers and Dexter Randall, Esquires, his Aids-de-Camp. Notwithstanding the ridiculous clamour which the democrats have raised in regard to the interference and influence of lawyers in our State affairs, they seem very willing to appropriate their services in the management of political and military concerns. Governour Knight, it is believed, continues to hold two offices under the government of the United States—his resignation as Tax-gatherer and Clerk of a United States' Court not having been announced to his constituents in the official gazette.
