Nashville, Tennessee -- The College of Bishops of the Methodist Church's Central Jurisdiction has announced postponement of the Jurisdictional Convocation previously scheduled for November 20-22 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A new date for the Convocation will be set by the bishops when they meet in November.
Bishop Charles F. Golden, Nashville, general chairman of the Convocation, stated that a postponement was necessary to give "several study and data gathering committees more time to make adequate preparation for the Convocation."
The Convocation was called to address itself to the matter of "racial inclusiveness" within The Methodist Church.
The Convocation is expected to concern itself with invitations which have been extended to Central Jurisdiction Conferences and episcopal areas by geographic units, and with the posture of the Church when the segregation (Central) jurisdiction is eliminated. While the Convocation will not be a legislative body, specific recommendations are expected to be directed to the next session of the Central Jurisdictional Conference, to the Commission on Inter-Jurisdictional Relations, and to the 1964 session of the General Conference.
