AMAZING BOOST FOR STATE; SHOWS CYPRESS LOGGING, SPONGE FISHING, CELERY RAISING AND RESORT FUN
(Special to The Citizen)
NEW YORK, Nov. 24.—Nationwide publicity will be given to Florida's industrial progress and resort attractions in a new full-reel motion picture directed by Hamilton Wright, Jr., and just released by Universal-International Pictures Corporation. The picture, entitled "Play and Plenty," lasts ten minutes and will appear in more than 3500 theaters
Mr. Wright knows Florida better than most Floridians, having directed publicity for the City of Miami from 1927 to 1941, the Florida East Coast Hotel interests, the City of Daytona Beach, St. Augustine, Key West and the Overseas Highway.
"Play and Plenty" is the first picture ever released theatrically that gives audiences a graphic background of a Florida they have never seen.
The entire bottom of Rainbow Springs was covered with sea shells, sea ferns, sponges and authentic salt water marine vegetation.
One magnificent shot shows an enormous cypress tree splashing into the St. John's River, part of Florida's cypress logging operations.
Universal-International is pushing "Play and Plenty" vigorously throughout the country. It is estimated that about 30,000,000 people will see it this winter season.
"It is splendid—caused a great deal of enthusiasm—Florida will derive great benefit," said Saxton Lloyd, head of the Florida State Advertising Commission, at a preview recently.
