$1,449 Donated To Navy Relief Drive

Gratification Expressed By City Chairman As Fund Is Over-Subscribed 50 Percent.

The campaign for the Navy Relief Society in the Putnam district, which included the towns of Putnam, Thompson, Woodstock and Pomfret was an outstanding success, according to an announcement made yesterday by William J. F. Rafferty of this city, chairman of the drive.

Quota for the district was $1,000, Mr. Rafferty said, and the total of contributions was $1,449.77.

Mr. Rafferty asked The Observer and other local newspapers to apprise the public with the results of the drive and to thank one and all for their contributions toward its success.

"Because of the generosity of individuals, manufacturers and business houses and their employees, societies and the cooperation of local newspapers, a total of $1,449.77 was realized," Mr. Rafferty announced.

"The quota for the four towns was $1,000 and the oversubscribing by nearly 50 percent was most gratifying," he continued.

"On behalf of the Navy Relief Society, I sincerely thank all who contributed to this very worthy charity. It should be a source of real satisfaction to those who gave to know

that their donation will bring comfort to someone in need.

"I am personally thankful to Witman Danielson, H. H. Ellis, J. Otis Fox, Eimer J. Major, A. E. Otto, H. S. Porter, H. Seeley Brown and W. A. Simpson, who as members of the executive committee, worked with diligence and enthusiasm for the success of the drive," he concluded.
