Kennedy, British Minister Will Meet Today On Laos Situation

By MERRIMAN SMITH
UPI White House Reporter

WASHINGTON - (UPI) - President Kennedy arranged Saturday to meet Sunday in Florida with British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan on the menacing Laos crisis, then return here to receive a special message from Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev on Monday.

The White House also announced that Kennedy had sent a personal message to French President Charles de Gaulle on the Laotian situation.

The rapid-fire developments in a tense world situation were announced shortly before Kennedy left for Florida by plane for his emergency meeting with Macmillan in Key West.

The message from Khrushchev will be brought to the White House Monday noon by Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko who requested the special appointment with the President.

The message was expected to contain Khrushchev's response to the West's appeal to the Kremlin for a cease-fire in Laos and Kennedy's firm warning of free world action to prevent the Southeast Asian country from falling to Communist force.

In Moscow, reliable sources said Khrushchev had drafted his message at a hurriedly-summoned meeting with his aides. They said the message would constitute a reply to the British appeal for a cease-fire and Kennedy's statement.
