GERMANS TAKE OFFENSIVE
VERDUN ARTILLERY DUEL IN PROGRESS
Infantry Attacks Made Under Cover of Shellfire
Results in Repulse of the Germans With Heavy Loss of Life--Fighting all Along Front.

PARIS, May 1.--An official bulletin issued by the war office today states that the Germans have again assumed the offensive all along the line in the Verdun region. A terrific artillery fire is maintained, under cover of which the infantry is being hurled with terrific violence against the French lines. The bulletin states that the German attacks, without exception, have been repulsed, and that they have suffered heavy losses.
