AN OPEN LETTER TO 9,000 PEOPLE
The GARY AMERICAN is now in East Chicago. We are proud to be a part of a great community such as yours.
Very few people in our great State know that there are approximately 9000 Negroes in East Chicago.
East Chicago is proud of her Negro population and so is the GARY AMERICAN. Our job in East Chicago will be like it is in Gary and other parts of the State. That is to report the news as we see it.
Nothing but the truth; where there is wrong where Negroes are concerned and are in any way discriminated against, this will be brought to light.
The GARY AMERICAN is going to go into every home in East Chicago every Saturday. You will receive your papers through the news stands or have subscriptions mailed to your home.
The GARY AMERICAN will be your voice; speak out whenever you feel the need. Our Phone number in Gary is Turner 2-8548 and in East Chicago call Export 7-6812.
We will support the churches, social groups and all citizens interested in a better East Chicago. The businessmen, who receive thousands and thousands of dollars each year from our pocketbooks, will now have a way of advertising thru the GARY AMERICAN to say hello to their many friends.
We would like to thank Mayor Walter Jerose and all who helped to bring the GARY AMERICAN into East Chicago.
We ask all citizens regardless of race, creed or color, to help us in this great endeavor. This is your paper, your voice. It will not let you down.
