MADISON, Wis., (AP) - Intercollegiate boxing suffered what may turn out to be a knockout blow when it was dropped Monday by the University of Wisconsin, long a leader and often a champion in the sport.

The Badgers were voted out of competition by the Wisconsin faculty less than a month after the death of Wisconsin boxer Charles Mohr of a brain injury suffered in a bout.

Wisconsin had been the last major school outside of the Pacific Coast area still in the sport. Agitation for complete abolition of intercollegiate boxing increased after Mohr's death and probably will gain more strength from the Wisconsin decision.

The departure of the Badgers from the ring also means the end of intersectional action which helped maintain interest.
