Mr. J. E. Hanway,
Casper, Wyo.
My dear Mr. Hanway:
Your letter of recent date in which you suggest that I make a statement relative to my stand on the Prohibition issue was forwarded to me here.
I thought that when I made my announcement as a candidate for Governor that I made my position quite plain.
I made the following statement:
"I favor the Constitutional Amendment which will be submitted to the voters of Wyoming and the National Amendment which the next Legislature will be called upon to ratify, providing for the prohibition of the liquor traffic. If nominated and elected, I shall do all in my power to induce the Legislature to pass laws to make effective prohibition in the state, and if such laws are enacted, I shall make every effort to enforce them."
I do not see how I can make my position any clearer than I have in the above statement, except to say that if the people will elect me Governor and will elect a Legislature that will pass the right kind of laws, that the laws will be carried out by me.
Further, I want to say that I am seeking this office solely for the honor and I can see no honor in the office for any man who would fail to do his duty and least of all for the man who failed to carry out his campaign pledges.
Very truly yours,
ROBERT O. CAREY.
The Clown Prince wanted "a jolly war," and he's jolly well getting it.
