Full Text

The address of the British Government, to be read in churches, distributed in the pews, and posted up like a Mountebank's or Merry Andrew's bill of entertainment, at the Street corners and market-places, must have a wonderful effect upon the "winish multitude," who can neither read themselves nor understand what is read to them! Besides this winish herd (we use the language of the royal pensioner, the apostate Burke) comprises at least 100,000 lusty fellows, who are described by the same supple courtier as a horde of incorrigible Jacobins, ripe for the destruction of Church and State, and the consequent overthrow of the "Corinthian pillars of polished society," the age and virtuous Nobility of the Realm! But whatever may be the effect of the Address, one thing is clear, that the adoption of such a measure Betrays the weakness as well as the fears of the government; and must excite the ridicule and contempt even of the cooks and scullions of the Thuilleries.
