A WARNING TO DRUNKARDS

On Sunday morning, last, a man by the name of Ebenezer Pearce, jr was discovered in the path, on the highway in this town, lying on his hands and knees, with his face in a small puddle, formed by a rut, dead. He was seen the evening before very much intoxicated, and there were appearances which left no doubt of his having in the course of the night, went into the cellar of a man for whom he had worked, and drawn a quantity of cider brandy, drank it, and then after going about a quarter of a mile stumbled and fell with his face in the mud and water, and thus died without ever stirring his hands or feet, as was evident from his tracks. A jury of inquest was called by Mr. Albert Newkirk, coroner, who returned a verdict of 'death by strangling in the mud and water, in consequence of intoxication.' He was about 35 years of age, and said his parents lived in the Genesee country.
