Fine Residence
Father Monteverde's Nob Hill Stone House—A Substantial and Convenient Dwelling.
We have delayed making mention of this fine Nob Hill residence until such time as it was entirely completed, and now that it is finished and Father Monteverde installed therein, the Sentinel is happy to say that the Hill is ornamented by another as fine a structure as there is in Eureka, or for that matter in the county. The building is located on O'Neal Avenue and adjoins the Catholic church on the north, is 28 feet square, two stories high, and the walls, which are of cut stone, are two feet thick, thus making a very substantial building. There are four rooms on the ground floor, two of which are connected by folding doors. A hall extends the length of the building both on the upper and lower floor, which makes access to any room possible without going through from one room to another. The up-stairs is divided into three compartments—bath room, sleeping apartment, and a large pleasant sitting room with a cheery fire-place. The ceilings are high and each room well lighted. The wood work, which was done by Mr. Charles Klobe, is very fine, and adds much to the interior attractiveness. Just what the building cost we were unable to learn, but it is one of the best, most convenient, and substantial residences in the county, and Father Monteverde doubtless feels happy now that he is so pleasantly and comfortably situated.
