THE CONVENTION
Have agreed to a resolution limiting the number of the Representatives in the Legislature, in its largest extent, to 150.--the constitution, as it now stands, admits of an increase to 300.
After the present census they are to be increased, on the taking of every future census in ratio of two members a year in the whole State. That is after the next septennial census, an addition is to be made of 14 members, and so at every successive census, until they amount to 150.
They have reduced the Senate to 24 members, and limited their largest number to thirty.
They are to increase in a ratio of one Senator for every four years.
The apportionment of Senators and Representatives among the different election districts, is to be left with the Legislature for the time being.
The convention passed a resolution yesterday declaratory of the construction of the 22d article of the constitution, relative to the right of nomination--and have resolved that the right is concurrent in the Governor, and each member of the Council. Eight votes were for the exclusive right in the Governor. Five for an exclusive right in the other members of the Council.
