ETHIOPIA AFFIRMS HOPES FOR PEACE

GENEVA, Aug. 6.-(UP).-

Emperor Haile Selassie yesterday telegraphed the League of Nations assurance of Ethiopia's desire to reach a pacific solution of her conflict with Italy.

He thanked league council members for their deliberation of last week.

"The imperial government repeats Ethiopia is resolved firmly to reach an equitable and pacific solution of the problem," the emperor said. "We hope league efforts will be successful in maintaining peace."

League officials regarded the telegram as a hopeful omen since it implied thanks to Italy, a member of the council.
