Full Text

Monument to Washington.—We learn from the New York Express that a plan is on foot to erect in that city, a colossal marble statue of the Father of his Country. It is to be erected by Mr. Stout, a native artist, who has risen by the force of his genius, and in despite of his poverty, and other obstacles which seem to be its unvarying attendant, to the first rank of Sculptors. The figure is to be placed in the Park, and is to be fifteen feet high, on a pedestal of twenty five feet: and it is to represent the outline of the form of the great Hero, covered with a simple drapery, in the style of Michael Angelo.
