Local Pony Merits Ribbons In 3 Carolina Horse Shows

"Midnight Rhythm," 42-inch tall Shetland pony belonging to Janie Hines, aged 3-1/2, of Lincolnton R-2, is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the best fine harness ponies in the Carolinas.

It has been trained by Jack Hines, father of its owner, and Beck Moehlman.

In its first show "Midnight Rhythm" captured the blue ribbon of first place in the Lenoir Horse Show in June.

Later in the same month, the Lincolnton pony took second place in the Charlotte Horse Show, being surpassed only by Golden Comet of Greenville, S. C However, this past weekend, in a three-day horse show at Myrtle Beach, Midnight Rhythm came back to turn the tables on Golden Comet and emerge first-place winner in its class.

In Lenoir and Charlotte, Midnight Rhythm was piloted by Johnny Moehlman, and in Myrtle Beach its driver was Joe Becker.

On Friday evening of this week, Midnight Rhythm will be entered in the Kingsport, Tenn., Horse Show

The Lincolnton prize-winner was purchased by Jack Hines from the late Oscar Smith, owner of Caroline Farms of Norfolk, Va.

Though purchased for a price of $150, Midnight Rhythm's training already has brought offers ranging as high as $1,200, which have been refused.
