To the Freemen of Connecticut.—Two weeks from next Monday you will assemble at the ballot box, to elect your annual town officers. We are rejoiced to hear that in all parts of the State the Whigs are already awake to the subject, and will throng around the ballot box, with zeal unabated, and under the strong confidence of right and of power. The immense importance of the result of this election in our State should cause every Whig voter to be present at the polls. The consequence of whether this or that man, whatever political faith he may have, be elected to the office of selectman or assessor, considered in reference to his usual duties, is of no magnitude whatever. But there is one point in which it is of incalculable importance; that is, the bearing which it will have on the election of next spring, and the subsequent Presidential election. Let it be rung throughout our borders and throughout the adjacent States, that Connecticut has, this fall, given a majority of votes for the loco foco candidates, and very nearly as much confidence will be abstracted from the Whig electors of the State as will be conferred upon their opponents.—Let our organization then be perfect; let every man be at the polls, and let him see that his Whig neighbor is there also. The indefatigable exertions of our antagonists are the more to be dreaded, because they work secretly. Not a word, not a breath do we hear of their exertions. Let the Whigs of Connecticut be on the alert. Let not one be absent from the polls on the first Monday of October. Be assured that locofocoism never, at an annual town meeting, dragged forward its votaries so numerously to the polls as it now will. We are not in the habit of complimenting John M. Niles—but well and truly did he estimate the importance of getting political partizans for selectmen. We say again, let every Whig be alert, and let him be at the polls on the first Monday of October.—Norwich Courier.
