TIME MAGAZINE SAYS NEGROES ARE MAKING GREAT PROGRESS

New York, May 18 - The Time Magazine in its May 11 edition called the "Negro's trek up from slavery the greatest success story the world has ever known."

The article entitled "The U. S. Negro, 1953" is a very well written story of the progress of the American Negro since 1863 with special attention being devoted to the advancements within the last 20 years.

According to the article, the Negro has made progress on every level and continues to forge ahead at an unprecedented rate.

Negroes have made great strides in industry, the article points out but fall short in the highly technical skills. "One big trouble: there simply are not enough qualified Negroes," Time reports. "U. S. industry will hire all the Negro engineers it can get, but Negro

college students go in for science or engineering. They still favor the respectable relatively secure professions such as teaching, medicine, ministry or law."
