WARNING OF A CHILIAN TRAP.
The New York Post warns the Democrats in Congress to beware of the consequences of falling into a Chilian trap. The Democrats are in control of one branch in Congress, without whose concurrence there can be no war, and they cannot be unmindful that a foreign war of any dimensions would be in the interest of the party in control of the executive branch of the Government, and it would swamp the tariff question, the currency question, the treasury deficit question and every other issue before the country, and all matters for investigation would be entirely covered up and extinguished as completely as though they did not exist. No one better understands this than the present occupant of the White House and the members of his cabinet. Moreover, if there were any glory in such a war, it would be to the credit of the party in power. The Democratic party would have the honor of voting the supplies merely, which would render necessary large expenditures of money, contracts for all kinds of supplies, an increase of the national debt and a new pension list.
