Political Nomenclature.
Since the times of the Burgmarrat:
Will you be kind enough to give us the definition of the following terms? Jeffersonat, Butternut. Copperhead Rebel and Traitor.
The Gazette and Commercial would give the majority on that they synonymous terms all meaning one and the same thing.
I heard a conversation yesterday, in which the following questions and answers were presented:
Ques-What is a Copperhead?
Ans-A white man who thinks himself better than a nigger
Ques-What constitutes a Union man?
Ans-A white man who thinks himself equal to a nigger.
Ques-What constitutes an unconditional Union man?
Ans-A white man who thinks a nigger better than himself.
The answers were understood to be from a Lincoln standpoint in this Lane and Stoke of West Virginia.
