Great Rat Hunt

A grand rat hunt occurred in Ross county, Ohio, in the early part of January, which resulted in the death of 5484 rats. These stretched out in single line assuming to take up one foot space would reach more than a mile. Allowing each rat to eat and waste on an average, one quart of corn per week, this army must have consumed the past year, more than 8500 bushels of corn, which at four cents per bushel is worth more than $3000.

This at a bushel and a half a week would have kept 108 families of five persons each, for an entire year. We have no vermin more destructive than rats.
