Mystery still surrounds the finding of the skeleton of a man in the desert wastes some 20 miles east of Niland Tuesday afternoon. While Coroner B. E. Lemons and county authorities have delved into the records of the past, checking up on missing persons no clue as to the possible identity of the man has been forthcoming.
The skeleton itself gives little to work on. Possibility of identification through the teeth is given as the only chance. In the upper jaw two silver fillings show and one a gold filling while a gold cap covers one of the lower teeth.
There is but little question relative to the cause of death, a bullet hole showing clearly in the right temple with a corresponding hole in the left side of the skull. On the left side a portion of the bone was broken away in addition to the part carried away by the bullet.
While authorities are still holding a faint hope for identification there is very little material from which to weave a solution. It is believed that the death occurred at least three years ago and possibly longer.
