GIRL ATHLETES

Need of athletics for boys is recognized by physicians, educational authorities and all who are interested in work among boys.

Athletics for girls, although much more recently undertaken, is recognized as being just as important.

While the events in which the girls participate are not as strenuous as those in which their brothers partake, there is all the thrill and excitement of any athletic event when the girls get on the baseball diamond, the track field or basketball court.

Tomorrow the track meet for Imperial Valley high school girls will be held at Central Union field at 1:30. Anyone who thinks the affair is tame, never watched a bunch of real live American girls compete against each other.

Competition is raised to the "nth" degree. A 100 yard run with five or six girls participating, will not set up any time that would cause Frank Wykoff to fear for his laurels, but that group of girls racing down the field, each one determined to finish first, is something that will send the chills up and down the spine of any red-blooded adult.

The girls are more or less neglected, as far as spectators are concerned. If it is difficult to get attendance at the boys' athletic events (and it is so far as El Centro's adult population is concerned) it is even more so when the girls are participating.

These girls train just as hard as the boys, and they are just as loyal to their school and ambitious for its athletic success. They deserve the support of El Centro fathers and brothers, and mothers too. Let's get out tomorrow afternoon and give them a hand.
