Refuse To Commute Death Sentence
HARRISBURG, Pa.-(NNPA) -The State Board of Pardons refused last Tuesday to commute the death sentence of Corrine Sikes, 22-year-old maid, who is to die in the electric chair on September 30.

Convicted of the stabbing murder of her ex-employer, Mrs. Freda Wodlinger, on December 7, 1944, Miss Sykes will be electrocuted at Rockview Prison unless she is granted another reprieve by Gov. Edward Martin.

The Governor has postponed her electrocution three times. Miss Sykes originally was to die April 29 last.

Second To Die
If she goes to the chair she will be the second woman electrocuted in Pennsylvania. The first was Irene Schroeder, who was electrocuted in 1931 for the murder of a Pennsylvania State highway patrolman.

The board's latest action was announced after hearing the plea on September 10 of her attorney, Raymond Pace Alexander, of Philadelphia. The attorney asked that her life be spared on the ground that her mental age is under 8 and that an accomplice influenced her to kill Mrs. Wodlinger. He admitted that he had no new evidence to warrant commutation of the sentence to life imprisonment.

The board's decision was announced by its secretary, Joseph Nissley.
