Full Text

A case involving a breach of the marriage promise was tried in New York on Thursday.
The parties were Miss Cornelia Bunce, plaintiff, a lady over forty years of age, and Mr. John Smith, a gentleman apparently beyond sixty, lately a widower, and the father of a large family of children. One of the letters from Smith, produced at the trial, stated that as his children were opposed to his marriage with Miss Bunce, and desired his union with another woman, he had complied with their wishes and married the lady they (his children) had chosen as a proper wife for him, (their father,) although he had seen her but twice before in his life. Verdict for plaintiff—damages $2,000.
