Daring robbery at the Citadel military stronghold: thieves entered General Glitz's office, carried off a 200-pound iron safe via staircase, broke it open with a cannon ball in an unoccupied room, stealing $875 and checks. A garrison private arrested on suspicion, puzzling given active guards.

Usually there was a goodly amount of greenbacks in this safe, but on this occasion the enterprising robber was only rewarded for his pains with $875, and some checks of about the same amount, payment of which, of course, has been stopped. One of the privates of the garrison has been arrested on suspicion of being implicated. The wonder is, that where a military guard is constantly on active duty, that an iron safe could be removed, and that by a circuitous staircase, and afterwards broken open on the premises in the manner described without the guard on duty hearing the noise.
