WAVES HEARING ON RAPE CHARGE

Edgar Kerr, 43-year-old White man, accused of raping a 17-year-old Negro girl, waived preliminary hearing Tuesday before Peace Justice Ruth Sutton. He will be tried in Circuit court.

Kerr was arrested Saturday, June 20 in Sarasota on a warrant issued by Justice Sutton, based on an affidavit of the girl who said he took her to a Coral Gables apartment and assaulted her after she answered an ad for a maid.

He was served in jail last Monday with five charges of writing worthless checks. The warrants were issued by Justice Sutton and served by Constable Thelma Hardison.
