Full Text

We hear from Brookfield, that Mr. Aaron Crosby lately set out from that Place for the Indian Country on the Susquehanna River, under the direction of the Reverend and Honourable Board of Commissioners at Boston, with a pious resolution to learn the Oneida Language, in order that he may be better qualified to serve as a Missionary among the Six Nations, without being obliged to conform to the slow and expensive way of Instruction by an Interpreter. He was accompanied by Mr. James Dean, a Student of Dartmouth College, in Hanover, in New-Hampshire, who is a perfect Master of the Oneida Language, and who was sent by Dr. Wheelock to solicit Indian Children for the Indian Charity School and to see if there is an opening for a Missionary among the Tuscaroras.---The Board has had a Missionary at Onyhoquagie ever since the year 1700, when a Church was gathered, which has increased from seven to twenty five members, all walking in the faith and order of the Gospel under the pastoral Care of the Rev. Mr. Morley.-----They have another Missionary at the Oneida Castle, the Rev. Mr. Kirkland, who has learnt their Language and meets with great Success, the poor benighted Wretches continually flocking round to hear, as they express it Collirobyn-tough Gods News and to enquire of him the way to Heaven.--- And now they have sent out a third, Mr. Crosby, on a plan that promises much.
