Capt. Chapin Samson from Jamaica informs, that when he was off Cape Florida, about the 6th Instant, he Spoke with a Ship bound for London, that had taken up a Whale-Boat with six Men, being Part of the Crew of a Whaling Sloop, commanded by one Bernard of Nantucket, which was taken by a Brig under Spanish Colours, off the Bay of Mattanza, five Leagues distant. The People of the Brig gave the Whalemen their Boats, but carried off the Sloop; the other Boat with the rest of the People were taken up by another Vessel. The Sloop had 130 Barrels of Oil on Board. Capt. Samson afterwards saw a Sloop along side the Ship which he supposes took out the People belonging to the Whaler, in order to bring them to the Northward, which Kindness he would have done himself, but was so short of Provision, that he had scarcely enough for his own Crew's Subsistence hither.
