Full Text
Now the national election has definitely settled, there is one consolation in the result. The South has been destroyed ever more and the solid North blotted out from the political record of the country for all time to come. The war created both, and the people, the grand arbiter of causes and effect, have annihilated the existing fact as well as the idea. New Jersey and Connecticut will doubtless cast their electoral vote for President Cleveland, and West Virginia for President-elect Harrison. These are results unexpected but none the less effective for good for the long hereafter. The broken column of southern states augurs well for the South in the future and calls to mind the fact that the South has more important interests than politics and the North a trade relation very considerably dependent on the South. This change will be good for the South in ways without number and exhibit a far greater reciprocal commercial movement than has ever taken place since the war ceased. The manufactories will increase a hundred fold and all will be advantageous to the South if the southern people are true to themselves.-El Paso Tribune, (Dem).
