Diggs In Detroit; Powell In New York;
Winners By Heavy Majorities Over Republican Opponents
Chicago, Ill., Nov. 12.-(DSN)-
The veteran Negro Democratic Congressman of Chicago, Rep. William L. Dawson, who is also vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, led the triumphant return of three Negro Democrats re-elected to membership of the U. S. House of Representatives, in spite of the landslide vote on November 6th which re-elected President Eisenhower over his Democratic opponent Adlai Stevenson.
In spite of the fact that he had been singled out for bitter attacks by the NAACP. first because of his vote against the Powell amendment to the school aid bill, and secondly because of his work on the platform committee at the National Democratic Convention which brought out the so-called compromise Civil Rights Plank, Congressman Dawson won by a large majority over George Lawrence, his Republican opponent.

In New York City, Congressman Adam Clayton Powell showed no signs of being hurt by his support of President Eisenhower for re-election, and his repudiation of the Democratic Candidate Adlai Stevenson. Congressman Powell also won re-election over his Republican opponent by an overwhelming majority.
