After the adjournment, the Senators came to Mr. Webster to thank him. Gen. Dawson, of your State, clasped Mr. Webster's hand between his own, and with great fervor expressed his gratification. At the same time he introduced another Georgian, who said, in the fullness of his heart, "Mr. Webster, if you will come to Georgia we will receive you with open arms."
Well, I don't know but Mr. Webster will have to go to Georgia, or somewhere out of New England, after this speech. I see already tokens of the storm gathering over him, in the North. Mr. Webster, as I personally know, wholly disregards all that. His trust is in the intellect that God gave him—and that is a surer guide and a safer reliance than the approbation of prejudiced men.
