A numerously attended meeting was held in Milwaukie, on the 23d June, wherein the people unanimously nominated Gen. Taylor for the Presidency of the United States, in consideration of the services rendered in Mexico and elsewhere, and because they believe him to be 'honest, capable, and faithful to the constitution.'
Gov. N. P. Tallmadge made an address to the meeting, speaking eloquently and effectively in favor of this nomination, and giving an interesting sketch of Gen. Taylor and his services. Mr. Tallmadge said, in his remarks, that he never was mistaken in predicting the result of a political contest in his life, and he now predicts that Gen. Taylor will be made President in 1848, by the people, by acclamation.
