Full Text

The gallant and distinguished Columbian General Devereux, who not long since visited this country, on his way to Egypt, has by an order from the Austrian government, been arrested while traveling in Italy, and confined a close prisoner at Venice. The reason assigned for the arrest was, that he had fought with Bolivar against Old Spain. He is a subject of Great Britain and a citizen of Columbia and the United States, and was traveling, it appears, under a passport from the latter government, when the arrest was made. It will be well to see if these so-called sovereign powers have influence enough to obtain his release.
