Full Text

His Excellency Governor Lawrence, in his Speech to the General Assembly of Nova Scotia, on the 8th of last Month, recommends to their Consideration what relates to the Bounties for encouraging the Cultivation of their Lands, and raising Grain; as the rightly improving that Peninsula, will not a little contribute to the future Prosperity of Halifax.- His Excellency also informs them, "That the Tour he lately made thro' the newly established Settlements, gave him perfect Satisfaction: the Township of Liverpool far exceeding the Ideas he had formed of it; and that it could not fail to produce some considerable Branches of Commerce, and in particular That which they have exerted such Efforts to propagate, the Fishery.-That those, situated upon the fertile Banks of the Bay of Fundy, to which substantial Farmers are crowding daily, with the most sanguine and well grounded Expectations, will make a still more rapid and astonishing Progress; nor can it be doubted, but that the Metropolis will receive such ample Supplies from their Labour and Industry, as must at once remove all Obstacles to its commercial Intercourse with other Countries, and give that Reputation- to the Port of Halifax, which in its own Nature it is so happily adapted to receive: These Considerations represented to his Excellency the Utility, or rather Necessity of opening a more commodious Communication by Land with those Departments; which he enter'd upon immediately, and a considerable Progress is already made therein, and doubts not but the whole will be finished in due Time, without embarassing the Finances."

The Day following His Majesty's Council at Halifax, presented a humble Address to his Excellency Governor Lawrence; as did also the House of Representatives; to both which his Excellency was pleased to return very obliging Answers.
