For the Representative of the town of
For the MASSACHUSETTS SPY.
Attend, ye living, and I'll relate what your fathers in ages past have done. New-England's venerable and noble ancestors who first cultivated religion, liberty and science, in this country, faithfully instructed their children in the principles of religion and liberty, and died in the faith that their heirs would reap the harvest of freedom which they had sown. They forewarned their children that perilous times would come, when evil men would endeavour to bring in slavery and other evils; and behold the time is already come, the crisis is at hand. the sword and the spear are drawn against the Americans, and they are now called to unite as one man to dispel their adversaries. Be of good courage, be strong O sons of America, the sound of victory will soon be heard throughout your coasts, and your enemies hearts will fail for fear!—Those who have long insulted you will soon supplicate your favour upon the knee of repentance, and with blushing acknowledge your wisdom and their folly. The union of the colonies will clinch the nail of liberty from north to south in America, and no power on earth will be able to break this invincible band of brothers.
