Philadelphia, Aug. 17. We have an Account by private Letters from South Carolina, that the Small Pox carries off abundance of the Inhabitants, so that the Country People will not come to Town, and but few People to be seen in the Streets; that about 400 Persons, White and Black, have been Inoculated: And that there is likely to be a great Scarcity of Provisions there this Season; for which Reason the President has issued out his Proclamation, ordering all Persons to implore the Divine Goodness by Fasting and Humiliation, to avert those Calamities.
